Dear Members of the Hawaii County Council,
I am writing to you today as a member of the board of directors and Vice President of North Kohala Community Resource
Center. This uniquely -modeled non-profit organization has operated in our community the past 22 years servicing a
multitude of projects benefiting thousands of community members over that time.
In all communities here, island -wide, statewide and nationwide, traditions, particularly cultural traditions, are foundational
to what makes an area special, meaningful, and memorable to its residents and all who choose to enjoy those traditions.
As such, I urge you to support allocation of funds for the Kamehameha Day Celebration in Kohala.
Kohala holds a special place in Hawaii as the birthplace of King Kamehameha. It all began HERE. Preserving and
continuing the tradition of celebrating this historic holiday is of utmost importance to pride in our community now and for
our keiki in the future so they iuiderstand and recognize the significance of where they live. Funding is instrumental in
ensuring that this cherished, vibrant and impactful tradition may continue.
I strongly encourage you to approve the necessary funds for the Kamehameha Day Celebration in Kohala, allowing all of
us to gather - frorrr around the island, the state and beyond our shores - to honor our past and enrich our firture.
Mahalo for your consideration and commitment to preserving this particular tradition that helps to make Kohala
and Hawaii Island so unequivocally distinct.
Best Regards,
Vicky Kometani
