Aloha Council Members
As an animal activist, it is criminal to see the lack of services we have in South Kona,
especially in the Ocean View, Na'alehu area. I have lived in Ka'u nearly 15 years and
have seen an Animal Services truck/person in our neighborhood only once, and that
was because I called them regarding 3 starving puppies that had been dumped in
Discovery Harbour. We desperately need that to change. It is a 3 hour round trip
from our area to the nearest Animal Shelter, that is unacceptable. Ocean View has
so many abandoned/starving dogs and some are dangerous. That needs to be
addressed asap and can only be addressed if we have even a small shelter on this end
of the island. I urge the County Council to allocate the money to get this shelter
started and to have a dedicated ACO dedicated to this end of the island. We do not
need another person to be killed by wild dogs before this is addressed. Much Mahalo
