Aloha, Council Members.
As a resident of Discovery Harbour, I am writing in support of this
proposal to amend the County Budget to build an animal control facility in District 6. Lost,
abandoned, and stray dogs are a.major safety concern here in Ka'u; as you know a man in Ocean
View was recently killed by a pack of stray dogs. Repeated requests for assistance from Animal
Control currently go unanswered due to lack of county staff and lack of animal shelter space. We
would greatly benefit from having a place for Animal Control staff to work out of and to be more
responsive to complaints. We don't need to keep waiting for help and risk losing another human life
because the county budget can't meet our needs.
