Dear Council Members,
I'm thrilled to hear that there's an effort to make all Council Meetings free
from single use plastics. As the President of Recycle Hawaii, I can tell you
that the Executive Director and I do a lot of research on the plastic
crisis. The public still has no idea of how dire this situation is. The studies
we've read are terrifying. I won't go into it here, but please, if you're
interested in some of the latest studies, I would be honored to share them
with you. Suffice it to say, we need to stop all single use plastics ASAP and
the money to OSCER for a pilot project is a great first step. I know you'll
see that living without plastic isn't as hard as they lead you to believe.
I recently attended the Climate Reality Project Leadership Training Seminar
in NYC. There were thousands of people and not one speck of plastic, other
than the carpet and various building and furnishing related items. If they can
do it, I know you'll be able to do a little Council meeting.
Al Gore on a mission at the CRP seminar 2024, let's join him.
