HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 527 Draft 01 2022-2024 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE WAIMEA HAWAIIAN HOMESTEADERS ASSOCIATION INC. TO PURCHASE A BRONZE PLAQUE FOR THE JAMES “JIMMY” CORREA BALLFIELD AT DR. FRANCIS F. C. WONG STADIUM. WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” Correa, a beloved coach and mentor, devoted most his life to sharing his passion for baseball with generations of athletes from Hawai‘i Island, earning his well-deserved reputation as the Father of Hilo Baseball; and WHEREAS, in recognition of Coach Correa’s legacy of sportsmanship, inspiration, and dedication to his community, the Council of the County of Hawai‘i passed Bill No. 103, Draft 2, on January 10, 2024, to officially name the ballfield at Dr. Francis F. C. Wong Stadium in Ho‘olulu Complex as James “Jimmy” Correa Ballfield; and WHEREAS, Bill No. 103, Draft 2, was duly enacted as Ordinance No. 24-3 with an effective date of June 15, 2024, the 105th anniversary of Coach Correa’s birthday; and WHEREAS, the Waimea Hawaiian Homesteaders Association Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works to perpetuate the Hawaiian culture through various expressions of cultural and customary practices; and WHEREAS, the Waimea Hawaiian Homesteaders Association Inc., is working in collaboration with the Correa ‘Ohana to install appropriate signage in consideration of the official naming of James “Jimmy” Correa Ballfield at Dr. Francis F. C. Wong Stadium; and WHEREAS, the Waimea Hawaiian Homesteaders Association Inc. is requesting funds to purchase a bronze plaque for the James “Jimmy” Correa Ballfield at Dr. Francis F. C. Wong Stadium; and WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Parks and Recreation is to provide and facilitate a wide variety of services that meet the needs of the community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness of the County’s rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Waimea Homesteaders Association Inc. to purchase a bronze plaque for the James “Jimmy” Correa ballfield at Dr. Francis F. C. Wong stadium. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General   AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION:  $3,883   OUT AND FROM:    010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC – Contingency Relief $3,883  CREDITED TO:    010.500.5503.02 Department of Parks and Recreation $3,883   P&R Admin OCE    115 Misc. Contract Services    (Waimea Homesteaders Association Inc. - James “Jimmy” Correa Ballfield Bronze Plaque)    BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
