Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Resolution No. 515-24,reports as follows:
Resolution No. 515-24,transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa, via Communication
No. 872 dated April 26, 2024, authorizes the Mayor to enter into a multi-year agreement with the
University of Hawai`i at Manoa.
This resolution allows the Department of Research and Development to enter into a five-year agreement
to share the cost of funding two Extension Agent positions who will cover Indigenous Crops/East
Hawai`i Master Gardeners and East Hawai`i Livestock.
Committee Member Holeka Goro Inaba asked Economic Development Specialist Glenn Sako to provide
background on this matter.
Multiple committee members commented in support of this measure.
Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawai`i Revised Statutes,the Mayor of the County of Hawai`i is authorized
to execute, on behalf of the County,this and all future agreements and related documents with the
University of Hawaii at Mama for the purpose as described above.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 515-24, and
recommends its adoption.
