Ulupono Initiative supports Bill 137 Draft 3, Relating to Public Improvements and' Financing Thereof for the County of Hawaii for the Fiscal Year July 1, 2024 to Junes : .7, 30, 2025. Dear Chair Kimball and Members of the Council: ` ` My name is Micah Munekata, and I am the Director of Government Affairs at Ulupono Initiative. We are a Hawaii-focused impact investment firm that strives to improve the quality of life throughout the islands by helping our communities become more resilient and self-sufficient through locally produced food,renewable energy and clean transportation choices,and better management of freshwater resources. Ulupono supports Bill 137 Draft 3,which establishes the public improvements and financing budget for the County of Hawaii for FY 24-25. Ulupono supports the proposed public improvements budget regarding the Pahoa Hub planning and construction,the zero emissions infrastructure in Hilo and Kona, and the transit hubs planning and design work in Waimea. Ulupono also support the Safe Routes to School projects proposed on Kahakai Blvd and Kilauea Ave. Each of these important projects directly supports the county's efforts to invest in clean, safe,and accessible transit options for our local communities.
