Subject: Testimony in opposition to Bill 125
Dear Council,
I write to opposed Bill 125 but support greater regulation of commercial bicycle touring companies. Hawaii roads in my
town are used by commuter, recreational, and commercial cyclists. My fear is this bill could have a harassing effect on
those who bike the roads for the first 2 reasons.Additionally, Hawaii law states that motorists must share the road with
cyclists which means motorists play a key role in ensuring road safety for cyclists and drivers.This Bill unfairly puts the
blame on cyclists and reinforces vehicle driver entitlement.The bill is also a disincentive towards low carbon modes of
transport, in which cycling is one and in which many in my town choose.
