Subject: Testimony in Opposition to Bill 125
Dear Council Members,
I am OPPOSED to BILL 125. I do not support the regulation of Commercial Cycling Tours on the Island of Hawaii and this
bill impacts me as a recreational cyclist. The current draft of Bill 125 appeals to local neighbors and vehicular users of
some roadways on the Island who may be inconvenienced. But there are many ways to achieve safe cycling and driving
conditions that are much more likely to promote equitable use of our roadways than simply closing them down to
cyclists, and these should be recognized by any legislation. I ask that Council Members vote NO on Bill 125. I think drivers
in the state of Hawaii need better education on how to share the road with cyclists safely and our state should promote
more ecologically friendly modes of transportation, not prohibit their use.
