Subject: Bill 125
I am writing to share my concerns with you about the proposed Bill 125 limiting bike touring in Hawaii.
As an avid leisure bike rider and citizen of Kamuela, I am very concerned about the vague wording of how
an unsafe road could be defined, and the unlimited power of possible non-bike riders to determine what
constitute unsafe conditions.
Although this Bill is focusing on the bike tour industry, it could set presidence to restrict public road use
by any cyclist if the county desires.
The current condition of the majority of roadways in Hawaii are not bike user friendly. Instead of
penalizing citizens who desire a healthy lifestyle by enjoying their freedom to use public roadways,
government should be improving roads to support both cars and bicycles.
I'm very happy to see the improvements to Waikoloa road, but the only truely safe roads to ride a bicycle
in Hawaii currently are the major Highways. That seems crazy to me.
