Subject: Support for Hawaii Council Bill 140-24, Ashley Kierkiewicz ...
Ltd
Dear County Council, -t,c_.p
I am writing in to register my SUPPORT for Hawaii Council Bill 140-24 sponsored by
Councilperson Ashley Kierkiewicz.
I have been a resident of this area for over 35 years. I have seen our transfer station go from
open access to having various bins available for our recyclables, to for a while now, no
recycling and a 1 day per week on Saturday. This is very inconvenient and frankly
unacceptable. I think it adds to the problem of illegal dumping that negatively impact the aina
and our ocean. And it's unfair that if we can't make that Saturday time slot, we have to haul it
all the way up to Pahoa, which is costly and inconvenient. The population density of the
Kalapana area far exceeds other communities on the island that enjoy 3 days per week
access to their Transfer Stations' services. We should have the same, 3 if not more days per
week to accommodate our growing population in the area. I implore you to please vote to
extend our Kalapana Solid Waste Disposal-Transfer Station to a minimum of 3 days per week.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Jacqueline N Danner
