Aloha County Council,
Thank you for looking into the challenges facing residents in Lower Puna. Our Kalapana Transfer station
is open only on Saturday. Unfortunately this results in many people dropping trash bags outside the
locked gates ... This is an eyesore for residents and vacationers. It often results in these bags spilling
out trash. This is an environmental hazard for our ocean and the sealife that live there.
As you undoubtedly know, plastic bags in the ocean mimic jellyfish and may be consumed by our
precious Honu, Dolphins or other sea creatures.
I would greatly appreciate my tax dollars going to open the Kalapana Transfer Station ... Please consider
the impact that our limited trash availabiiy has on both the land and sea residents and increase our days
to 2 per week. It would be awesome if there was also a place to deposit cardboard and glass for recycle.
