I am a full-time resident living in Kalapana Seaview.
The issue of our transfer station being open only 1 day a week has been going on for years.Three years
ago, I started a petition on change.org which garnered over 220 signatures to have the facility opened at
least on more day a week, as the garbage that piles up on the road there is a health hazard, as well as
unsightly.
I forwarded the petition to Matthew Kanealii-Kleinfelder and had a phone conversation with
Gregor Illegan regarding this issue,and yet no changes have happened.

Also the many people who live here and on the Red Road community must drive their garbage to Pahoa, a
distance of 15 or more miles,which is wasteful in terms of the cars on the road and the ever-present
need to conserve fossil fuels given climate change.
Also I have asked that the glass recycling bin be restored to our facility,and that has not happened,
causing more waste to go to landfill of our most easily recycled material,glass.
The population here in Seaview has expanded significantly in the past 5 years,and we need to have our
tax dollars spent to service the population. Our property taxes have also increased significantly over the
years and certainly the increased revenue can be used for this purpose.
I urge you to support the effort to have our transfer station open at least twice a week.
