Subject: Kalapana Transfer Station Hours
I am writing in support of adding hours and days to the current Kalapana Transfer Station Hours. For the
past 4 years,the transfer station has reduced it's open time to one day a week. Saturday,from 8 to 4pm.
Prior to this,the station was open three days a week and also included recycle bins!
This area of lower Puna has been terribly adversely impacted by the shortage of hours. There is always a
pile of trash and garbage outside the gates every day of the week that it is closed.
Area residents need this transfer station to be open more days and hours to accommodate the entire
Highway 37 population from kKalapana to Pohoiki, , Kalapana Gardens, Black Sands community and
lower Highway 130 residents.
This will cut down the amount of roadside garbage found on highway 130 and 137.
I am resident and urge you to PLEASE add days and hours to our transfer station.
