Aloha Council,
I'm writing to oppose Bill 166, the proposed subdivision of tax map key 7-3-024:003 — it is one of the
last remaining stands of old growth native forest in Kaloko. Kaloko is a water shed and the demise
and desiccation of its flora and fauna jeopardizes that. It is some of the last remaining habitat for
endemic species. There are several endangered and endemic species living in that forest that would
suffer extreme loss of habitat. I don't believe the developer has done a study to examine the extent of
the damage to the ecosystem of this proposed subdivision. It is impossible to clear even 20% (as the
developer claims to want to do) and not lose a significant percentage more as Rapid Ohia death
spreads with the disturbance the trees and the ground around them, as you can see evidenced in
every cleared lot that has left standing trees which eventually die. These days they die even more
quickly.
I do not believe there should be further subdividing of Kaloko Mauka.
