Subject: Fwd: Kalapana dump
Subject: Kalapana dump
Despite the lack of reporting kalapana area has had many cases of rat lung worm disease.
This illness is cased by slug interacting with rats. In recent years a particularly aggressive
slug has overtaken this region and has lead to a rash of more serious and even lethal cases
of rat lungworm. These slugs love human food and congregate on plastic trash bins and
bags throughout the week between dump days. Most of our properties are small and the
rat-slug cycle is happening in our yards or our close neighbors yards because we can only
remove trash one day a week.A baby in our neighborhood almost died last year from rat
lungworm be of how the situation with our dump has effected the safety of our
neighborhood. This is discrimination against a rural community with extraordinary health
threats and I believe the dump should be open a minimum of three days per week. Mahalo
