RESOLUTION NO. 550 24
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO A MULTI-
YEAR AGREEMENT WITH HAWAIIAN TELCOM, INC., REGARDING
COMMUNICATION SERVICES FOR A NEW EMERGENCY
COMMUNICATIONS CENTER IN HILO
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Fire Department desires to enter into a multi-year
agreement for three (3) years with Hawaiian Telcom, Inc. for communication services at
a new emergency communications center located at 540 Kupuna Place, Hilo, HI 96720
and a backup location at the Hawaii Police Department located at 349 Kapi`olani Street,
Hilo; and
WHEREAS, the communication services for this new emergency
communications center will ensure continuous uninterrupted communication services for
the Hawaii Fire and Police departments' emergency operations; and
WHEREAS, Section 10-11 of the County Charter requires that any contract,
lease or other obligation requiring payment of funds from the appropriations of a later
fiscal year or of more than one fiscal year be approved by resolution; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that County
departments obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal
or state governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers
granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in
connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
1. In accordance with section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes and section 10-11
of the County Charter, the Mayor of the County of Hawai`i is authorized to
execute, on behalf of the County, an agreement, and related documents with
Hawaiian Telecom Inc. for purpose as described above.
2. That sufficient funds be budgeted in future fiscal years to cover the
anticipated obligations of the County under the terms of the agreement
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii shall
transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of Management, the Finance Department,
Hawaii Police Department and the Hawaii Fire Department.
