Re: Operating Budget
The County of Hawai`i has been awarded $50,537 from the U.S. Department of Justice,
Office of Justice Programs. These funds will be used to fund travel and training needed
to increase the efficiency and readiness of the Police Department's Special Response
Team (SRT).
Enclosed is a resolution to enter into an agreement to accept these funds. Also enclosed
is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $50,537.

A. REQUEST:
This is a request to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs
(JAG)for an awarded grant by the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant(JAG) in the amount of
$50,537.
Please create an Ordinance to appropriate $50,537.00 for the period covering July 1, 2024-June 30, 2025.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Hawaii County Police Department will receive support in the form of grant funding to be used for training
and travel to increase the efficiency and readiness of the Hawaii Police Department's Special Response
Team (SRT), directly contributing to increased public safety and service and successful resolutions to critical
incidents.
