COUNTY OF HAWAPI <br />STATE OF HAWAI `I <br />RESOLUTION NO. 558 24. <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAIIAN <br />CANOE RACING ASSOCIATION FOR ZERO WASTE SERVICES AT THE <br />INTERNATIONAL VA`A FEDERATION WORLD SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP. <br />WHEREAS, the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association (HCRA) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit <br />organization with a mission to engage and encourage participation and education in Hawaiian <br />and Polynesian culture through canoeing and other related activities on a local, national, and <br />international basis; and <br />WHEREAS, the HCRA is hosting the International Va`a Federation (IVF) World Sprint <br />Championship from August 13 through August 24, 2024, and anticipates participation from more <br />than 3,000 competitors from 30 countries around the world; and <br />WHEREAS, the IVF World Sprint Championship is an international canoe racing event <br />that takes place every two years, bringing together paddlers from around the world to compete in <br />various categories of outrigger canoe racing, not only in an athletic competition but also to <br />celebrate Polynesian and Pacific Islander culture; and <br />WHEREAS, the HCRA is collaborating with multiple organizations to ensure a world - <br />class event and is implementing a plan to generate little to no waste, referred to as "zero waste", <br />therefore reducing the amount of waste emissions and products that would enter our landfill; and <br />WHEREAS, the HCRA is requesting funds for water jugs and zero waste services at the <br />IVF World Sprint Championship; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports this event as it is in <br />keeping with the goals and objectives of the department to provide a diversified recreation <br />program that addresses the needs and interest of the respective communities in a safe and <br />welcoming environment; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to HCRA for zero waste services for the IVF World <br />Sprint Championship, <br />
