Res. 559-24: AUTHORIZES THE HAWAI`I FIRE DEPARTMENT TO AWARD FUNDS TO
HAWAI `I WILDFIRE MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION
Pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A), Hawaii County Code,
the Hawai `i Fire Department is providing a grant of $33,200 to the Hawai `i
Wildfire Management Organization to be used towards Phase I of the "Community
Fuels Reduction and Defensible Space" project.

RESOLUTION NO. S9 24
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE HAWAI`I FIRE DEPARTMENT TO
AWARD FUNDS TO HAWAVI WILDFIRE MANAGEMENT
ORGANIZATION
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai'i
County Code (2016 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of $25,000
to nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the
grant funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance
or resolution; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawaii County
Code states, "nonprofit organization" means an organization organized for other than
profit -making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax -exemption from the
Internal Revenue Code; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization (HWMO), which
qualifies as a nonprofit organization as defined above, will utilize the funds towards
Phase 1 of the "Community Fuels Reduction and Defensible Space" project; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Hawai'l Fire Department wishes to provide
$33,200 to HWMO; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI'I, in
accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai'i County
Code, the Department of Hawaii Fire Department is authorized to provide a grant of
$33,200 to HWMO to provide services as indicated above.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawai'i
shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Management, the Finance
Department, and the Hawai'i Fire Department.
