This industry is not just a small part of our island's economy; it contributes over $1.1 billion in economic impact to the Big Island. Given this significant contribution, it is alarming that such extensive regulations are being considered without a comprehensive, independent, and academically rigorous economic impact study. During the Leeward Planning Commission meeting, which lasted over eight hours, you agreed that conducting such a study is necessary. This acknowledgment highlights the complexity and potential consequences of Bill 121 on our community and economy. The current timeline does not allowfor a detailed evaluation of this bill, which is both complexand impactful. Therefore, I urge you to recommend sending Bill 121 back for a thorough study and to re -work its language. It is also crucial that a member of the industry be included in discussions. The absence of industry representation has contributed to the public's frustration and concern over this bill. Involving those directly impacted by the bill ensures a more balanced and informed approach to regulation. Let's take the necessary steps to understand the full implications of Bill 121 before making decisions that could significantly affect our island's economic future.
