Personal Testimony
I wish to shed light on situations like mine, where Airbnb income is notjust supplemental but essential for sustaining
livelihoods.
For more than three decades, my family has called a property home that includes a main house and an Ohana unit.
During periods when my retired family members are away from the island, I manage the Ohana through Airbnb rentals.
This additional income has been crucial in ensuring my financial stability, and the prospect of losing it is deeply
concerning.
As a single mother caring for an adult child with disabilities, navigating the landscape of limited support services has
been profoundly challenging. While I maintain flexible employment that accommodates my son's special needs, it does
not generate sufficient income. Thus, my part-time role as an Airbnb host plays a pivotal role in bridging financial gaps.
I firmly advocate for local policies that prioritize addressing concerns related to out-of-state investors and individuals
with multiple Airbnb properties. It is essential to differentiate residents like myself, who reside on -site and actively
engage in responsible hosting practices, from those whose investments may not contribute positively to our community.
