This industry contributes over $1.1 billion to the Big Island's economy. Given this significant contribution, it seems appropriate to first conduct a comprehensive, independent, and academically rigorous economic impact study before puttingthe restrictions of Bill 121 in place. During the Leeward Planning Commission meeting, which lasted over eight hours, you agreed to conduct this necessary study. This commitment highlights the complexity and potential impact of Bill 121 on our community. I strongly urge that the bill be sent back with a recommendation to not only conduct the study but also to re -work its language to ensure it accurately reflects the needs and concerns of all those who will be affected by this bill. i The lack of representation of Vacation Rental owners, managers and employees at the table during discussions is alarming. To foster a more inclusive and informed decision -making process, I request that a member of the vacation rental industry be included in future discussions, particularly during the question and answer sessions. This inclusion is crucial to address the public's concerns and to ensure that the bill, if passed, benefits our community as a whole. Please consider these points seriously and take the necessary steps to ensure that any regulation of the vacation rental industry is done thoughtfully and with a full understanding of its economic implications. My employees and all the businesses down Puna that benefit from the local spending our guests bring to the Puna District are counting on you to do the right thing.
