Aloha Madam Chair and members of the county council, Please oppose Bill 169 Draft 2.
Federal Emergency Management Agency's designated floodways run through the Kona Vistas property so as rainfall
events reach ever-increasing historic levels,the Kona floodways will begin to overflow more often. Add to that the fact
that Kona's FEMA floodways are immature and subject to channel overflows and changes.The impacts of downhill
properties will be catastrophic and if you pass this bill,you will be remembered for that likely future damage.
Please DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND NOTE tht the General Plan, Flooding, North Kona section and see clearly that this is
an area that although in the urban expansion area needs to remain undeveloped for the future SAFETY of the public,
your constituents, like myself who is PLEAING you to OPPOSE this bill and subsequent development in that area.
If your eyes are open to see, rather than your pockets for lobby incentives, it will be clear that this area should be
preserved as open space and for natural and cultural resource preservation,which does look good to your public who
you are supposed to be representing rather than special interests.
The area is a high flood RISK(THUS A DANGER TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY),so it is not suitable for residential or commercial
development now or ever. Please stop the madness before it becomes a tragedy!
