Aloha no kakou,
I am firmly opposed to Bill 169 Draft 2 for the following reasons, -
1. The Kailua, Kona district infrastructure cannot support a development of this size. r
2. The concept of affordable housing has been corrupted to accommodate inappropriate land use permitting.
3. The pollution along this coast has devastated the nearshore marine resources.
Despite the obvious negative impacts stated above the rampant development of our fragile 'aina continues without
thought of what is good for the people who live here. Kailua, Kona is becoming another Waikiki where outside business
interests take precedence over cultural and environmental concerns. Why do our elected officials ignore the pleas of the
people whom they represent?
With the degradation of our precious coral reefs due to climate change increased pollution is the"straw that is breaking
the camel's back". Tourists come here to enjoy our culture and natural environment, not increased traffic and crowded
landscape filled with buildings. Tourism is the acknowledged economic driver that pays for our taxes that should be used
to benefit the people who live here. The decision to allow this development to continue to satisfy the developers who take
their money elsewhere is an inappropriate way to make use of the land which is precious to us all.
Please deny the passing of this bill and set a good precedence for future decisions of this nature.
