Dear County Council,
k.0 1 ,
I am in favor of Resolution 546-24 to create more trails along the stream. I would love to be
able to commute to and from work on my bike, but I live below the Waiaka Bridge and it is just
not safe to travel along Kawaihae Road on bike. I would love to be able to cycle the whole
way to and from work in town and my house. I would also love an extended path for walking
my dogs. We already extensively enjoy the existing path in the Nature Park, but having it
come down closer to where we live would be fabulous. My husband used to jog from work to
home, but only for a very short while. It's just too dangerous to be out on Kawaihae Road with
no shoulder. I have had a friend killed and two friends extremely seriously maimed in
roadside accidents in Waimea town.
The proposed 14-mile trail will provide public access to an area that may otherwise be closed off
by various development projects, if easements are not acquired soon. It would be a shame to let
this opportunity slip by.
My hometown has a rails to trails conversion and it is super wonderful. I'm really in favor of
trail creation that removes some of the conflict between bike riders and automobiles.
Thank you,
Kelly Barrick
