I currently use the existing trail several times a week and would use the extended trail likely even more since it would offer a "highway-free" mode of transportation. This would improve safety for pedestrians and bicycles, especially Keiki. I am a Waimea resident writing in support Resolution 546-24 and the purchase of easements generally following the Waikoloa Stream from Church Row in Waimea to the South Kohala Coast. Creating this 14-mile trail involves a wonderful vision for a healthy and active South Kohala region. It presents a tremendous opportunity for safe outdoor recreation-and for alternative modes of transportation in South Kohala, which will reduce automobile traffic and pollution along the highway. The connections people develop, through using the trail will result in new stewards of the land and help in preserving the riparian corridor. And,the 14-mile trail will provide public access to an area that may otherwise be closed off by various development projects,if easements are not acquired soon. I strongly encourage you to approve PONC funds for this worthwhile purpose. What a wonderful investment in the health and well-being of our community and its residents. Mahalo, ' Comm.
