Aloha Chair Inaba and Vice Chair Galimba-
I urge you to approve the use of Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources (PONC) funding
for the project known as Waimea Trails and Greenways. This project is a 14-mile project linking
Waimea town at Waimea Nature Park also known as Ulu La 'au to the coast at Spencer Beach
Park. The approximately 1-mile of Waimea trail from Route 19, makai is envisioned with pavement
and ADA compliant so that people can get out of their cars and walk off the roads around town.
Federal grant money has been applied for. The path would be a safe route to schools for kids. The
trail is envisioned to extend mauka past church row. This will reduce pollution, carbon footprint as
well as add to the health of the participants. This will also help to preserve our riparian areas and
increase enjoyment of these areas to more residents. I strongly encourage you to approve of the
PONC funds for this worthwhile purpose.
This is the first trail proposed for acquisition by the 2% Land Fund Program and fulfills the part cited in
the charter: "access to beaches and mountains."
PLEASE VOTE YES on this important project for the Waimea Community.
