Dear Council Members,
Please accept this written testimony in strong support of Res. 564-24 being considered by the Legislative
Approvals and Acquisitions Committee on Tuesday,July 9.
I live with my wife and infant daughter in Waimea. My family and I have enjoyed spending time wandering
the existing Ke Ala Kahawai`o Waimea and are looking forward to the planned extension to the transfer
station.
I'm proud that a portion of our annual property taxes is dedicated to the Public Access, Open Space, and
Natural Resources Preservation Fund. It's a critical investment in our land and our future. Further
extending the streamside trail is an ideal use of these funds.
I've experienced first-hand how beneficial multi-use trails are to communities and the people that live
there. I was fortunate enough to grow up in Edmonton,Alberta, Canada that boasts a sprawling network
of multi-use trails that I could safely explore on a bike as a child. I hope my daughter will be able to
experience something similar here in Hawaii.
This is why I'm urging each of you to approve Res. 564-24 to begin the land acquisitions and conservation
easements needed to extend Ke Ala Kahawai `o Waimea down to the Ala Kahawai National Historic Trail
system near Mau'umae Beach.
Mahalo,
