Dear Council members,
I am writing in support of PONC funding being allocated for purchasing easements to expand Ke Ala Kahawai o Waimea
from Church Row in Waimea down to the Kohala coast to link up with the Ala Kahakai trail.This 14 mile trail will restore
ancient trails that connected Mauna to makai.This will benefit the residents of this island by giving them a safe place to
walk, hike, ride a bicycle for recreation to enhance the health of our community. It will also provide a transportation
alternative to deuce the dependency on Cars and give commuters the option of walking or biking to school,work or
shopping errands.
The trail will also give the greater community the opportunity to enjoy the stream and riparian environment rather than
limiting it to a few who live on the stream.The riparian area can also be cared for by volunteers as evidenced in the
existing 1 mile that is used in Waimea for the past few years.
I encourage you to vote yes for this project to receive PONC funds.
