Subject: 14 Mile Trail
Aloha, Finance Committee:
I am writing to support Resolution 546-24.
I have lived in Waimea for fifty years. Our small town has grown immensely during this time,and yet,there is nowhere
safe for cyclists and walkers to traverse any areas without the fear of being hit by speeding cars. My dear friend and
incredible triathlete Sylvia Ravaglia was killed while running far off on the shoulder in town, hit by a car that crossed the
center lane on New Year's Day. Accidents like this that tear apart families and leave behind devastated children can be
prevented with the creation of this 14 mile trail. It is time to bring this community together in safety and recreation, and
this trail will do that while also accomplishing many other important goals like promoting health, preventing disease, and
supporting our Keiki's social emotional well being during a time when they most need it.
Please approve PONC funds to support this incredible opportunity to give our community something that it so
desperately needs, before developers acquire all of the land and make it impossible to access easements.
