Council Testimony
BILL 166
I am writing to express my strong support for Bill 166 and urge you to pass it without delay. I have had the
privilege of knowing Mike Hughes for several years, as he is my doctor. I can attest to his character,
morals, and dedication to preserving the land.
Mike and his partners have noble intentions with their subdivision plans. They have committed to keeping
80% of each lot as forest reserve, demonstrating their love for the land and their desire to protect the
fragile eco-systems on the property. They are not simply looking to profit from short-term vacation
rentals, but rather to build homes, raise families, and retire in Kona.
It is disheartening to hear that some members of the council have voted against this bill in the past. if this
bill does not pass, Mike may feel forced to leave Hawaii, depriving Kona of a talented and dedicated
doctor. It would be a loss for the community to see him go.
I urge you to consider the benefits of passing Bill 166 and allowing Mike Hughes to fulfill his dream of
building a home in Kona. It is a win -win situation for everyone involved. Please do not let bureaucratic
hurdles stand in the way of progress and preservation.
Thankyou foryour attention to this matter.
