SUBJECT: Testimony re: PONC Land Purchase

Many learned people who have lived and studied Hawaiian history have been asking you to preserve this
land. They have presented numerous studies and testimonials as to the cultural significance of this land.
This community's own taxpaying members of the Cultural Resources Commission recommended that this
land be saved from development. And don't forget it was our own citizens who long ago agreed to fork
over a percentage of our own tax dollars to save lands like this from development.
The facilitating entity, "PONC", was created. PONC studies many proposals for saving land(s) from
development. PONC added this land to their list of "purchase -able" land because it met the high standards
of being "culturally significant". They are the stewards of our tax money that we agreed to use to save
precious lands. There is no one in this chain of custody that will benefit financially from the successes they
have in saving lands.
Contrast this with the desire of 3 wealthy men, who want to make millions of dollars more than they
already have, to build on this land. Very detailed and factual studies earned this land the designation to
qualify it as important enough to save into perpetuity. But facts do not matter to the developers, they lied
in their Inspection Summary Report submitted to the members of the Cultural Resources Commission.
They actually stated there were no findin s of anything culturally significant. All you have to read is the
title of their Report to see how they circumvented their responsibility:
"Archaeoligglicall Inspection Eummary of Historic Holualo Hui Access Easements Mauka LiLasU of
the Royal Vistas Project Area"
The Inspection was done on the land area east of the land. The developers are bold, they are determined,
they lie. Consider this carefully, we live on an island, we cannot -be taken in by false promises of
affordable housing. Not one dwelling planned for this land will be affordable to people who need affordable
housing. (It is surrounded by million -dollar -plus homes.) Cointre, No. • I

If you need another reason to preserve this land, here's a fact;
It is a floodplain.
