Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions, to which was referred Bill No. 183, reports
as follows:
Bill No. 183, transmitted by Mayor Mitchell D. Roth, via Communication No. 942, dated July 3, 2024,
repeals Ordinance No. 12 132, which amended Section 25-8-33 (City of Hilo Zone Map), Article 8,
Chapter 25 (Zoning Code) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 edition), by changing the District
Classification from Single -Family Residential — 10,000 square feet (RS-10) to Multiple -Family
Residential — 3,000 square feet (RM-3) at Waidkea, South Hilo, Hawaii, covered by Tax Map
Key: 2-2-038:017 (Planning Director initiated) (Area: approx. 0.9793 acres).
The Windward Planning Commission forwards its favorable recommendation to revert the zoning
from Multiple -Family Residential to its original designation of Single -Family Residential at the
request of the owner. The property is located at 1623 Kino'ole Street.
Planning Director Zendo Kern stated that this change of zone is stale, and the applicants were not
able to complete the project. Mr. Kern stated that the property owner requested the reversion and that
the Planning Department will contact the owner to attend the next meeting.
Your Committee on Legislative Approvals and Acquisitions is in accord with the purpose and intent
of Bill No. 183, and recommends its passage on first reading.
