(NOTE: COUNCIL MAY TAKE A LUNCH BREAK CLOSE TO THE NOON HOUR) APPROVAL OF MINUTES ORDER OF RESOLUTIONS May 16, 2024 —APPROVED May 30, 2024 — APPROVED Res. 559-24: AUTHORIZES THE HAWAI`I FIRE DEPARTMENT TO AWARD FUNDS TO HAWAI`I WILDFIRE MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION Pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A), Hawaii County Code, the Hawai `i Fire Department is providing a grant of $33,200 to the Hawai `i Wildfire Management Organization to be used towards Phase 1 of the "Community Fuels Reduction and Defensible Space" project. No. 559-24 PLACE: Council Chambers Kailua-Kona, Hawaii TIME: 1:23 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 559-24, reports as follows: Resolution No. 559-24, transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa, via Communication No. 936, dated July 5, 2024, authorizes the Hawaii Fire Department to award funds to Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization. Pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A), Hawaii County Code, the Hawaii Fire Department is providing a grant of $33,200 to the Hawai'i Wildfire Management Organization to be used towards Phase I of the "Community Fuels Reduction and Defensible Space" project. Fire Chief Kazuo Todd was available in the Hilo Chambers to answer any questions. Mr. Todd provided background on this measure and spoke about the details of this grant and its intent. Committee Member I-Ioleka Goro Inaba acknowledged this is the first grant request since the processing procedures were updated. Mr. Inaba asked Corporation Counsel Elizabeth Strance to provide guidance on processing this request as he had some concerns regarding the language in this resolution.
