No. 940/Bill No. 182 <br />Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Bill No. 182, reports as follows: <br />Bill No. 182, transmitted by Committee Member Heather Kimball via Communication No. 940, dated <br />July 5, 2024, amends Chapter 24, Article 4, Section 24-17 and Section 24-19, of the Hawaii County <br />Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), relating to an exemption from certain motor vehicle taxes and <br />fees for vehicles used by Police Officers in their official duties. <br />This bill seeks to exempt motor vehicles owned or leased for twelve months or longer by the County <br />and County -subsidized motor vehicles from motor vehicle taxes and certain vehicle registration fees. <br />Committee Member Heather Kimball provided background on this matter. <br />Committee Member Jenn Kagiwada asked if this would be open to all County workers who use their <br />personal vehicles for work purposes. Corporation Counsel Dakota Frenz stated this is only specific to <br />the Police Department. <br />Committee Member Rebecca Villegas asked if this would affect our Finance Department, to which <br />Finance Director Diane Nakagawa replied that it would not. <br />Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill.
