RESOLUTION NO. 58-1 24
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE ZONTA CLUB OF
HILO FOUNDATION TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS "AMELIA
EARHART GIRLS IN ENGINEERING DAY" EVENT.
WHEREAS, the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
whose mission is to empower women and girls through public service and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation sponsors an annual "Amelia Earhart
Girls in Engineering Day" event for 40 girls, and their parents, from various East Hawaii public
schools; and
WHEREAS, this free event will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, and is designed
to inspire girls in fourth through eighth grade to pursue science, technology, engineering, and
math (STEM) education by providing them with engaging discussions, interactive experiences,
and mentorship from local STEM professionals; and
WHEREAS, the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation is requesting funds to purchase t-shirts
for the girls and STEM supplies for the workshop activities for its "Amelia Earhart Girls in
Engineering Day" event; and
WHEREAS, the Committee on the Status of Women, supported by the Office of the
Prosecuting Attorney, is tasked with improving the status and well-being of women and girls
and working towards gender equality, which is parallel to the mission of the Zonta Club of Hilo
Foundation; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity,
service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI'I that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Office of the
Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to the Zonta Club of Hilo Foundation to assist with
expenses relating to its "Amelia Earhart Girls in Engineering Day" event.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Prosecuting Attorney and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is
hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
