Dear County Council Members,
I would like to share a personal story for you to consider. First, I was
100% disabled for 5 years after my surfboard hit me in the face
in 2008. After doctors figured it out I had surgery and made a full
recovery. Can you imagine supporting a family without any income for 5
years? Let's just say, I'm grateful I'm alive again, but I had to start over
financially from zero at the age of 53. My body was the first to come
back. My brain took a few years more, but financially? That has still not
recovered and I doubt I ever will, despite working 7 days a week, almost
without interruption for the last 10 years.
Second, my Father was 96 and needed help. I shut down my business and
rented out my house and moved to NYC to help take care of my Father in
his last years. During this time, the rent I received helped cover my
mortgage, utilities, property management, yard, taxes, insurance and
maintenance. This is all to show you one example of why you should
support bill 174. I'm sure there are many more examples of people who're
having much more difficulty than I have had and for whom their small rental
income is a lifeline. Please support Bill 174
Thank you for your time and support.
