Subject: Support Resolution 561-24
Aloha Chair Kimball and Council. Members,
Please pass Resolution 561-24
This resolution authorizes the finance director to enter into negotiations to acquire
approximately 68.84 acres of land to protect and preserve cultural and natural resources and
open certain areas of the property for education, gathering, and cultural practices.
The Cultural Resources Commission says this [and should not be developed due to its
cultural. significance. The PONC Commission already identified this land for preservation.
The community supports preservation. Maintaining this Land for cuLtural and archaeological
preservation enhances the entire community, and respects Hawaiian tradition.
Passing this resolution is in no way a "taking." Instead, it prepares the County to be ready to
negotiate a voluntary sale between willing seller and buyer. If the seller becomes willing to
sell to the County, then this resolution enables the County to act expeditiously. If the County
is not ready, then this significant property will be Lost.
Authorizing the County to be ready to enter negotiations is just that: giving the green Light to
be prepared to see if an agreement can be found between buyer and setter in a mutually
acceptable transaction.
Mahato for your time and consideration, and —as always —thank you for your hard work on
protecting the community's interest and welfare.
