Aloha Council Members,
"Approving this resolution will officially place this property on the approved
PONC list to purchase by the County when the sellers are agreeable.
. This property has many pre and post contact artifacts some may not even lj"e-
known at this point. The Cultural Resources Commission, along with the State of
Hawaii trail expert, and a person from the National Park Service, did an onsite
visit/tour on this property and noted many different attributes of this property.
They recommend protecting this property in perpetuity.
. Two National trails are on this property verified by the State of Hawaii trail
expert. Including walls of the Holualoa trail/log slide verified by expert Tom
Pohaku Stone who has a Master's Degree in Pacific Island Studies and did the
research for the Holualoa Inn for the slide/trail history.
. Home to threatened and protected species, Pueo Owl, Hawaiian Hawks, Hoary
Bats, Blackburn Sphinx Moth. Most live and use this property some at different
times (birthing/rearing).
For Water Quality and Ground Water Recharge.
Help reduce flooding.
Restore artifacts for local history and a teaching tool. Provide walking trails to
explore the history and observe our native animals and nature.
Join the Cultural Resources Commission, Leeward Planning Commission KCDP,
Soil Conservation, and the more than 1,400 people, who want this property
protected.
