RESOLUTION NO. 590 24
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO USA VOLLEYBALL,
INC., FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE LABOR DAY CLASSIC VOLLEYBALL
TOURNAMENT.
WHEREAS, USA Volleyball, Inc. (UVI), doing business as Moku 0 Keawe, is a
5 01 (c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to: 1) organize youth volleyball programs, 2)
provide opportunities for players to participate and improve their volleyball skills in a
competitive, safe, and healthy environment, and 3) train youth to compete in local, state,
national, and international volleyball tournaments; and
WHEREAS, UVI is the fiscal sponsor of the Labor Day Classic Volleyball Tournament,
which is a community event that promotes volleyball as an important sport and supports our
youth in an athletic competition dedicated to fostering growth and education; and
WHEREAS, the Labor Day Classic Volleyball Tournament will be held August 29 to
September 1, 2024, at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium; and
WHEREAS, UVI is requesting funds to assist with the rental of the facility and PA
system equipment, as well as purchasing refreshments for the volunteers helping at the event; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports safe, alcohol -free, and drug -free
programs and events that enrich the lives of our youth and community members; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency
Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution
identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service,
equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAPI that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to UVI for expenses relating to the Labor Day Classic
Volleyball Tournament.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
