Aloha Council Members,
It is my understanding that the budget veto by Mayor Yamashiro has,rn effect,
negated the Fire Departmentis request for a new apparatus for Kailua-Kona, District 7.
This would be a grave mistake as the current apparatus, which has been down for repairs
for most of this year, is in it's 170' year of sen~ice. Normal service duration is 10 years. This
apparatus was replaced by a much older, unsightly one, which itself went in for repairs
short{y afterward. Currently .ve are using a 2nd replacement that is severely under
powered, making response times much longer.
These vehicles are protecting your most highl~~alued district that is also one of the
busiest. This is a mismatch that could produce catastrorthic results. The time for correcting
this long overdue situation has come. Please find a way for funding this budget item.
Mahalo for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
Victor M. Salts
