Arakaki County of Hawaii Council Chairman 25 Aupuni Street Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Dear Councittnan Arakaki, , I am writing in support of the proposed bill to appropriate funding to ecqutre the last section of Railroad Avenue owned by the Shipman Corporation and to improve an alternative road to Keaau and Hilv. I have lived long enough in the area to experience the wildfires during the drought. I Gve ut the Hawaiian Shores area about a quarter of a mile from the ocean. If there is another conflagration, I and the other two sisters who live with me will be the last ones to evacuate because of the traffic on the Otte and only exit out of the development. Many other families would be trapped and perhaps in danger if thin only exit is ever clogged by traffic or lava flows. Puna is also growing rapidly with ntany newcomers purchasing cheap land and housing or renting cheap dwellings. !f the rate of growth continues, the district will need a second road to ease traffic and to provide a faster commute tv jobs opening in Keaau and Hilo. With gasoline rates going up rapidly, any way to reduce travel will be very helpful. Thank you for considering this request.
