Aloha Laura,
Tharilc you f'or your courtesy' telephone call. Please be sure that all Council
Members get a copy of this letter.
Regarding my letter to the Council pertaining to Hale Halawai. After I had
submitted that letter I did some research only to find out that if this dwelling were
demolished we probably would never see it rebuilt again because of the flood plain.
the core of engineers, building permits. environmental agencies etc etc etc. Because
of the above 1 feel that it should he remodeled at whatever cost. It is a very special
Land mark to Kona and should be preserved. However, we MUST put fiutding
aside to keep it maintained.
On the issue of Dog Friendly Parks. I am gathering communitti~ support on
this issue. This community needs to have places that we can take our dogs on leash,
this community also needs parks that we can train dogs. I have presently been
working with Julie Tulang and she has given ns (Kona Coast Kemiel Club)
permission to use Higashihara Field on Tuesday and Thur morning from 9-12 on a
trial basis (Pilot Program). This is great, however, it does not address the problems
of available park usage for those people who work during the day that either want to
take their dogs out for a walk or trauung session. We still have no available place
to hold dog training classes. We need a place to work and train our doss at any time
of the day_ Dog [raining is a sport as well as soccer, baseball etc. Kona is one of the
few communities in the islands that has no place for dogs. On the other islands
there are many parks that allow dogs nn leash and also allow dog classes by permit.
The community support is overwhelming. Please help us on this issue.
