COUNTY OF HAWAII 1• .' / • STATE OF HAWAII <br /> '''''• T�OFN�'� <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 599 24 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE BIG ISLAND <br /> LIONS FOUNDATION TO SUPPORT THE DOWNTOWN HILO CHRISTMAS <br /> LIGHTS PARADE. <br /> WHEREAS, the Big Island Lions Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization <br /> comprised of four East Hawai`i Lions Clubs (Hilo, Waiakea, Hilo Crescent City, and Akaka <br /> Falls Lions Clubs) whose mission is to strengthen and improve the health and well-being of our <br /> communities, support those in need through humanitarian services and grants that impact lives <br /> globally, and encourage peace and international understanding; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Big Island Lions Foundation is coordinating the Downtown Hilo <br /> Christmas Lights Parade, which will be held at 6:00 p.m. on November 30, 2024; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Downtown Hilo Christmas Lights Parade brings members of the <br /> community together to express their gratitude, sense of joy, and appreciation during the holiday <br /> season; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Big Island Lions Foundation is requesting funding assistance to help <br /> cover necessary expenses relating to special-duty police officers, to hire a vendor to provide <br /> traffic control and signage, and mini candy canes to give to spectators during the 2024 <br /> Downtown Hilo Christmas Lights Parade; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals and objectives of the Department of Parks and Recreation <br /> is to provide or assist in the provision of events and activities that celebrate our diverse cultural <br /> and historic traditions in healthy and safe environments; and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, <br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Big Island Lions Foundation to support the <br /> Downtown Hilo Christmas Lights Parade. <br />
