HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 604 Draft 01 2022-2024A RESOLUTION URGING THE MAYOR, PROSECUTING ATTORNEY, AND EXECUTIVE AGENCIES OF THE COUNTY TO OBSERVE SEPTEMBER 2024 AS NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH WITH A FOCUS ON ASIAN AMERICAN, NATIVE HAWAIIAN, AND PACIFIC ISLANDER COMMUNITIES. WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month is observed every September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time; and WHEREAS, Deanne Criswell, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, announced that the focus of National Preparedness Month 2024 is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities and emphasized the importance for these diverse communities to prepare for disasters and build resilience before disaster strikes; and WHEREAS, this focus on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities underscores the value of strengthening the fabric of our entire society and creating a safe and inclusive future in which our collective efforts to mitigate risk, protect against harm, and overcome challenges of all kinds authentically embraces and encompasses our diverse strengths, vulnerabilities, and experiences; and WHEREAS, as one of the most diverse counties in the United States, the County of Hawai‘i is committed to the health, safety, and well-being of all its residents, and to building a resilient and sustainable island that can support generations to come in the face of any adversity or emergency; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that this body hereby urges and encourages the Mayor, Prosecuting Attorney, and all executive agencies of the County to observe September 2024 as National Preparedness Month, with particular focus on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities, and to support efforts in connection therewith as may be compatible with official County duties and responsibilities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Hawai‘i stands in solidarity with local and global counterparts recognizing September 2024 as National Preparedness Month, and encourages every resident to embrace the spirit of unity, empower one another, and actively participate in preparedness efforts, especially by engaging with and supporting our Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Honorable Mitchell D. Roth, Mayor of the County of Hawai‘i; Deanna S.
