REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br />DATE: August 21, 2024 Re: Comm. No. 980/Res. No. 586-24 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br />TIME: 9:02 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 586-24, reports as follows: <br />Resolution No. 586-24, transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa via Communication <br />No. 980, dated August 1, 2024, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the Federal <br />Highway Administration and the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation pursuant to Hawaii <br />Revised Statutes Section 46-7, for a grant to the Office of Management. <br />This resolution allows for the receipt of $96,000 in federally -derived funds, which would be used to <br />promote alternative transportation options, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and introduce the community <br />to the interconnectivity provided through the Trek the Trails project. <br />Managing Director Deanna Sako appeared in the Hilo Council Chambers for questions and provided <br />details on these funds. Committee Member Susan L. K. Lee Loy asked if the $24,000 in matching funds <br />would be added to the $96,000 in federal funds, bringing the total amount to $120,000.
