The permit issued over 40 years ago was based on conditions and situations that existed 40 years ago. They are not applicable to today's conditions and situations. Except for one - the land is still a flood plain. Could that be the reason it was not developed back then? I am sitting here, looking up at all of you. You were duly elected to represent the people in your district. Are You representing the taxpayers, the residents who elected you, or the developers? I strongly encourage each one of you to due diligence and personally go to this site to see first hand, with Your own eyes, exactly what we are talking about. YOU have, heard years of testimony, siting reasons, such as lack of infrastructure, shortage of water, inadequate emergency services, shortage of hospitals and schools, over -capacity traffic volumes, floodplain terrain, and on and on... No one disputes these facts. Not even those who favor this development. I repeat, no one disputes these facts, The people who are in favor of this development state one reason - "affordable housing". It is more likely that the developers will try to trade more housing credits to work around it. Even if they do build some affordable units, there will not be enough nor will they will be affordable by any measure. And, H there are any, they will be in a floodplain.
