Subject: Hawaii County Needs to Study the Effects of Bill 121 Before passing it
Dear Council. Members:
I am writingto express my opposition to BiR 121 as amended. It is my understanding that the Council has
now agreed to conduct an economic impact study of the Vacation Rental. Industry on Hawai'i Istand.
Before considering Bitt 121, it is imperative thatthe study be compteted. I do not betive it is prudent to
consider BiU121 UDtiivveknow what its effects vvii[be.
Here are the questions that study should answer:
How much housing will b8freed upfor tong term rentals?
How much ofany inventory freed Upwill actually gotolocal residents?
How many Hawaii famities will lose some or all of their tivetihood due to new regulations, processes and
fees?
How much visitor spending and tax revenue will be lost at both the state and local level?
How will home prices baimpacted?
| took forward tohearing that Hawaii County has agreed to wait for the results of an economic impact
study prior to considering passage of Bill 121. It makes sense to understand the consequences of this Bill
rather than passing it and reatizing too late that the impact on our isLand economy was devastating.
