Subject: Testimony on Proposal to Regulate Short Term Rentals
Aloha,
This is my 10th year teaching in Hawaii's public schools. My
family has a small ohana unit which we began renting to
vacationers about 2 years ago. With rising inflation, this
supplemental income has become critical for my family.
My salary f rom the DOE just simply isn't enough to cover
housing, transportation, food and essentials. In a state where
25% of the local economy revolves around tourism, it is
imperative that residents continue to access a miniscule, but
important portion of the revenue generated by tourists, without
a laundry list of regulations. This in turn puts money back into
the local economy.
